What is a PII Scan Profile? 🤔

This is where you can configure ConnectSecure agents to scan for PII, set scan criteria, and determine file types to be scanned.

Global PII Scan Profile - Overview

Let's start by configuring the profile needed to initiate a scan for Personally Identifiable Information (PII). You'll find a table containing the existing scanning profiles. By default, none are available, and you can use the ‘Add Scan Profile’ button to create your first one.

  1. Add Scan Profile - tap here to add a new scan profile that defines the scanning parameters.

  2. Initiate Scan - starts a PII scan on the selected asset(s).

  3. Edit Scan Profile - edit an existing scan profile; it requires one selected scan profile.

  4. Remove Scan Profile - remove an existing scan profile; it requires one to make a selection at a time.

  5. Jobs - view historical and active job data across all companies.

  6. Alerts - tap to view the alert's timeline style.

  7. Dashboard - tap to be redirected to the external dashboard site.

Add Scan Profile

Tap on the ‘Add Scan Profile’ button to get started.

You will then have to complete the required fields for the PII scanning parameters, which include:

Name

Give the PII scanning profile a name.

Scan Type

Select the type of PII data you want to scan for with this profile. Data types include the following.

Bank Account Number

IP Address

Credit Card

MAC Address

Date of Birth

OAuth Token

Driving License

Phone

Email

Social Security Number

Default Extension Type

By default, the PII scan will scan the following extension types.

We can use these additional, optional, and permitted extension types to search for personally identifiable information (PII).

Choose Company

Select a company from the drop-down menu to associate with the scan profile.

Choose Agent

Select an agent from the drop-down menu to associate with the scan profile.

Source Type

Files will be auto-selected for you; there are currently no other choices.

Path Settings

Define the included and/or excluded path locations that the scanning parameters. This can include wildcard locations using the '*' when searching. You can add as many locations as needed or search the entire storage/partition.


Initiate Scan

To initiate a PII scan, select one of the configured Global PII Scan Profileoptions and then tap on the initiate scan icon.

Once the scan is started, you can track the scan progress and status by clicking on the Jobs icon.

Tap on the date/time stamp column to see the details further.

See the timeline-style details of the job as it is being processed.


Edit Scan Profile

To edit an existing scan profile, select one of the configuredGlobal PII Scan Profileoptions.

After making any necessary changes to the scan profile, tap Save. If you don't need to make any changes, click the Cancel button to exit.


Remove Scan Profile

To remove an existing scan profile, select a record and tap the Remove Profile icon.

You will be prompted to confirm the action of removing the profile. Tap Yes to remove; otherwise, click Cancel to back out and keep the profile.


Jobs

Tap the jobs section to see the progress and status of the PII scanning.

Global PII Scan Profile - Results

Here, you can view your PII scan(s) results. These fields include Status, PII Data Type, Source Type, Total Machines, File Path, and Input URL.

Status

PII Data

Displays the PII data type (Bank Account Number, Credit Card, Date of Birth, Driving License, Email, IP Address, MAC Address, OAuth Token, Phone, or Social Security Number.

Source Type

Displays source of PII Scan.

Total Machines

Displays the count of machines where PII data is found.

File Path

Displays the file path where PII data is found.

Input URL

Displays the Path Settings from the selected PII Scan Profile.

You will also find standard filtering and searching options.

You can click on the PII Data column to see details of the PII data identified.
